Age does not diminish the extreme disappointment of having a scoop of ice cream fall from the cone.
Everyone will have a different answer to this question. No doubt you already have some thoughts — both positive and possibly negative. For a start, just being your own boss may be very appealing but the fact that you are no longer working in a job that gave you a sense of purpose and possibly even became your identity, may not be so appealing.
Retirement gives you the opportunity to BE rather than DO — to BE who you really are! Your transition into retirement can provide the forum for personal renewal – unlike any other stage in life. It is an opportunity for self-affirmation and discovery. The question to ask yourself is not ′What can I do IN my retirement?′ … but ′What can I do WITH my retirement?′
It is essential to have a plan — a vision. What are your specific retirement goals? To make them more real, write them down — start a journal or a dream board with photos, magazine cuttings, words and phrases that help you visualise your retirement aspirations.
